THE ADOPTION PROCESS:
(Please also see adoption requirments below)
When you have decided which rabbit you wish to bond with your own or which pair that you wish to adopt, then please contact us on 07884 118 575 after 5pm on a Mon - Fri (or after 10am at the weekend) WE CANNOT TAKE TELEPHONE CALLS OUTSIDE OF THESE HOURS. You are welcome to text or you can e-mail us at admin@littleangelsrabbitrescue.com
When we receive your enquiry we will request evidence of your hutch/ cage size (see our rehoming guidelines below) We will then arrange a viewing and first meeting for the rabbits. If the rabbits are a suitable match then we ask you to complete an adoption form and you can take the Little Angels rabbit home for bonding. This normally takes 1 - 4 weeks. We suggest you have a spare cage or hutch for this time (we sometimes have a spare indoor cage that you can borrow).
If the bonding is successful then we ask for a donation of £40, however, should the bonding fail, we will take back the rabbit and another suitable match can be found.
The adoption donation of £40.00 per rabbit covers the cost of neutering and vaccinating our rescue rabbits against myxomatosis before rehoming and it also goes towards the vet bills that arise when we receive a sick or injured rabbit. If comparing our adoption donations to a pet shop's prices, please take into account that pet shop rabbits are not health checked and you need to take into account the cost to neuter your rabbit and vaccinations on top of the purchase price. Most importantly, you are doing a good deed by rehoming a rescue rabbit!!
Note to mums and dads: Rabbits live for 10 years +. Will your 7 year old child still be interested as a16 year old teenager??
ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS:
Our adoption requirements are not only set out for our rabbit's wellbeing but are for the benefit of your own rabbit too. We do not have these requirments to be harsh - they are in the rabbit's best interest and also set out for your benefit.
1) We ask for a minimum 5ft x 2ft x 2ft hutch with a large space for exercise and ask that indoor rabbits have a minimum of a 4ft puppy crate (for the height - picture opposite) plus 24 hour access to a 6ft pen - we ask for evidence of your rabbit's accomodation. This is the MINIMUM space a rabbit should have, they are energetic, clever animals and can be depressed in any smaller space.
2) All of our rabbits are neutered - we will not rehome a neutered female rabbit
to an un-neutered buck. This is because he will still constantly mount her and make
her life a misery. She can also turn on him if she becomes stressed at his behaviour
causing both animals an injury.
3) We do not re-home un-neutered animals. Reasons are:
We do not promote rabbit breeding
A rabbit's life can be many years longer if neutered - by 3yrs of age 80% of un-neutered does will have cancer
Neutering helps to calm some aggressive rabbits
Bonding is more successful when neutered
4) Rabbits will only be rehomed to be paired with a rabbit of a similar age (within 1 year if under 3 years old and within 2 years if 3 years +)
This is because it is stressful for a rabbit to lose a bonded friend if the younger rabbit is left behind and also, it isnt fair on an older rabbit to be paired with a bouncy younger rabbit.
5) We do not rehome babies under 3 months old - we wait until they are old enought to be neutered at 3 months. A rabbit's character can greatly change once it becomes sexually active from 3 months. The character of an un-neutered baby rabbit may not be the same character that he/ she has when it matures. This change in character is one of the main reasons that rabbits are surrendered to us and is easily resolved through neutering.
Please note that Little Angels Rabbit Rescue reserves the right to decline an individual(s) should they not be deemed suitable to home a rabbit.
Be inspired but please do not steal!
